Joining Us

Making sure a student’s first day at school is an enjoyable one is very important to us. There is an open morning and open evening in July every year, so that prospective parents/carers and students can see the school at work and get to know staff.

Parents/Carers of children offered a place at the school receive an information pack, including a welcome booklet, written for their children by our younger students. We gather student information from the primary schools to help with transition to secondary school.

The summer term taster day for new Year 7 students then allows our new intake to enjoy a day in school before they arrive in the September. This is also an opportunity for new students to meet their ‘buddy’; an older student who will act as mentor and help them to find their way around within the first few weeks. Our buddies take their roles very seriously and lasting friendships often evolve. An information evening in the July before new students start school also enables parents/carers and students to meet senior staff and tutors and become familiar with the school and its procedures.

On this evening parents/carers are given an information booklet for reference.
