Sport

The aim of the P.E. department is to promote a positive attitude towards exercise in all of our pupils, through providing as broad an educational experience as possible. A full range of extra-curricular activities is on offer both at lunchtimes and after school and these serve to complement and enhance the formal curriculum. Sport clubs include: basketball, football, hockey, netball, tennis, badminton, volleyball, rounders, athletics, fitness, gymnastics and dance. The extra curricular activities are run by the P.E. staff, teachers in other departments and qualified specialists from the community and, with a full fixtures list throughout the year, provide the students with additional opportunities to excel in their chosen sports. More able and talented pupils in sport are encouraged to attend local clubs and to represent their school, district or county. Our students regularly achieve county status in a wide range of sports, while others have competed nationally and internationally.

A major emphasis, however, is on the benefits of exercise for health related fitness and all our students are given the encouragement to progress and succeed. For those who wish to develop their leadership and coaching skills, the school also offers a range of Sport Leaders Awards which complement the curriculum in both the upper school and the sixth form.
