Curriculum

At Sixth Form students begin to specialize and the majority of students will study three Level 3 courses from a combination of A-levels, BTECs or CTECs; a few students may study four subjects. We are able to offer a very wide range of courses as part of our membership of the Sleaford Joint Sixth Form, where courses are shared between the three secondary schools in Sleaford. Students will study these subjects for the full two years in the majority of cases.

At this academy, each subject is studied for five hours per week with a specialist teacher. If students are studying three subjects they will have an additional five hours per week of supervised study in Year 12 in which they work independently.

We hold internal examinations towards the end of Year 12 where students must demonstrate they have the capability to succeed in their chose courses for automatic progression onto Year 2 of the course. Support is given to students who are struggling to help them improve and advice is given about alternatives if necessary.

All students also have the opportunity to complete a Level 3 Extended Project Qualification, equivalent to half an A-Level. This is a largely independent project in an area of academic interest to the student beyond the confines of the Specifications studied in class. It gives students the opportunity to develop important transferrable academic skills such as research, referencing, academic writing and presentation skills.

All necessary books are issued by the school and further texts are available in the library, to which students have full access at break and lunch times as well as after school and during any free periods.
