Supporting teens can be challenging, but small everyday actions make a big difference.
Start with Conversation
- Check in regularly, even if they don’t talk much.
- Listen without judgement and reassure them that their feelings matter.
- Share your own challenges when appropriate, it normalises talking about emotions.
Know What’s “Normal”
Teens may push boundaries or need more space. This is often typical.
If you notice ongoing low mood, withdrawal, or major behaviour changes, additional support may help.
Encourage Healthy Routines
- Consistent sleep
- Physical activity
- Balance between schoolwork, hobbies, friends, and rest
- Simple coping tools like breathing exercises or journaling
Kind but Clear Boundaries
Stable routines and consistent expectations help teens feel secure. Pair firmness with empathy and active listening.
