Term 1 - 16 October 2026

Dear Parent/Carer

As we reach the end of another busy and successful half-term, I have been reflecting on the many ways our school community continues to demonstrate what it means to be Achieving Excellence Together.

Our recent trip to Berlin was a wonderful example of this. Students were outstanding ambassadors for the school, and I am incredibly proud of the maturity, respect and enthusiasm they displayed throughout. The experience provided valuable cultural capital and learning beyond the classroom, helping students broaden their understanding of the world around them. My sincere thanks go to the staff who gave up their time to make the trip possible and support our students every step of the way.

This week's Music Showcase was another highlight. It was a pleasure to see so many students sharing their talents and performing with confidence. Taking part in activities beyond the classroom, whether through music, sport, the arts or leadership, plays a vital role in developing confidence, resilience and a sense of belonging. These experiences enrich school life and help our young people grow into well-rounded individuals.

Both of these events remind us that excellence is built through partnership: students embracing opportunities, staff providing guidance and encouragement, and families offering unwavering support. Together, we create the conditions for young people to thrive.

Thank you to all parents and carers for your continued support this half-term. I wish all of our students and families a restful and enjoyable break, and we look forward to welcoming students back to school on Tuesday 3 November.

Spotlight on Musical Talent

On Thursday 8 October, we hosted our first musical event of the academic year.

Unlike our traditional Christmas and Summer concerts, this event was designed to offer students the opportunity to perform in a smaller, more intimate and relaxed setting. The aim was simple: to celebrate musical talent, build confidence and provide a supportive environment for students to share their love of music.

And what a wonderful evening it was!

Our talented musicians treated the audience to a fantastic variety of performances, including soloists, duets and ensemble pieces. From beautiful, expressive performances to lively and energetic numbers, the evening showcased not only the musical ability of our students but also their creativity, confidence and enthusiasm.

What made the evening particularly special was the supportive atmosphere. For some students, performing in front of an audience is a familiar experience, while for others it takes a great deal of courage. Every performer rose to the occasion, demonstrating the hard work, preparation and dedication that goes into bringing a performance to life.

We are incredibly proud of every student who took part. Their performances were a real testament to their commitment, and it was a pleasure to see them enjoying the opportunity to share their talents.

A huge thank you must also go to the families, friends and staff who joined us. Your encouragement and enthusiastic applause helped create such a positive and welcoming atmosphere.

The Music Showcase was a wonderful way to begin our musical calendar, and we hope it will become a regular feature alongside our larger school concerts.

Congratulations to all our performers on a fantastic evening of music. We look forward to many more opportunities to celebrate the incredible musical talent within our school community!

Bringing History and German to Life in Berlin

Seventy Year 11 students and seven staff members enjoyed an unforgettable four-day History and German Department trip to Berlin from 9-12 October.

After arriving in the German capital, students visited the Jewish Museum and the Reichstag, where they enjoyed spectacular nighttime views across the city from the famous dome. Over the weekend, the group explored a range of significant historical sites, including the Berlin Wall, Checkpoint Charlie, the Topography of Terror, the Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe and Sachsenhausen Concentration Camp. These visits provided valuable opportunities for students to deepen their understanding of topics studied in the classroom and reflect on important events in history.

Students also experienced modern Berlin, with visits to the Mall of Berlin, local souvenir shops and the iconic TV Tower, which offered stunning panoramic views of the city. German language skills were put into practice throughout the trip, with several students confidently communicating in German during visits and meals.

The trip concluded with visits to the GDR Museum and TV Tower before the group returned home. Staff were extremely proud of the students, whose curiosity, maturity and excellent behaviour made them a credit to the school throughout the visit.

Introducing our KSHS CIT Community Champion

Our CIT Community Champions are a dedicated group of colleagues based in every school across the Trust family. They play a vital role in keeping school communities informed about local initiatives, as well as wider Trust-wide projects and opportunities. As ambassadors for community engagement, they help share ideas, encourage participation, and strengthen the connections between our schools.

The Community Champions meet four times a year to collaborate, share best practice, celebrate success stories, and help shape future initiatives that make a positive difference across CIT and the communities we serve.

The Big Future: Encouraging Your Child to Have Their Say

We would like to encourage parents and carers to support their children in taking part in The Big Future, a nationwide survey led by Dame Rachel de Souza, the Children's Commissioner for England. This important survey gives young people the opportunity to share their views on the issues that matter most to them, their hopes for the future, and the changes they would like to see in society.

The survey is open to children and young people aged 9 to 18 and aims to ensure that their voices are heard by those making decisions that affect their lives.

We know that our students have thoughtful perspectives and strong opinions about the world around them, and we would encourage them to take a few minutes to complete the survey. By doing so, they can help shape discussions about education, opportunities for young people, wellbeing, communities and the issues they care about most.

The survey is quick and easy to complete and can be accessed here:

The survey closes in late October.

Wellbeing for All

Staff are invited to nominate students who have demonstrated a Growth Mindset in the past few weeks. This might have been in lessons, in clubs, tutor time or simply around school. Please note we already award bi-annual subject badges and merits for good academic work, effort and improvement. These Growth Mindset nominations recognise those who show resilience (academic or otherwise); who aren’t afraid to get things wrong and learn from it; those who have a go, take themselves out of their comfort zone or show that even if a task is tough, they will persevere.
