Dear Parent/Carer
As autumn begins to make its presence felt, with cooler mornings and changing colours all around us, it has been another busy and successful fortnight at KSHS.
We were delighted to kick off our first House event of the year, Capture the Flag, with Year 7 students enjoying the sunshine, plenty of fun and some very enthusiastic cheering. It was wonderful to see students working together and embracing the spirit of friendly competition.
Looking ahead, we have a number of exciting opportunities on the horizon. We are particularly looking forward to our Year 11 residential visit to Berlin, which promises to be a memorable and enriching experience for all involved. Closer to home, we are also preparing for our Sixth Form Open Evening on Wednesday 21 October. We hope to welcome many of our Year 11 students and their families as they explore the next stage of their educational journey and discover the fantastic opportunities available within our Sixth Form.
It has also been heartening to hear about the growing involvement of our Sixth Form students in supporting younger members of our school and CIT community through the development of a virtual library. Alongside their support with House events and other activities, initiatives such as this demonstrate the positive relationships that exist across year groups. Seeing older students act as role models, mentors and leaders is something we are incredibly proud of and reflects the strong sense of community that defines KSHS.
We are always proud to celebrate the success of our students and our commitment to achieving excellence together. From a fantastic celebration of European Day of Languages to impressive sporting achievements, there has been much to recognise this fortnight. We also love hearing about successes beyond school, whether in the arts, community activities, hobbies or personal achievements, and encourage students to share these with us.
I would also like to extend a warm welcome to the new members of staff who have joined us this term. Although they have only been with us for a short time, they are already becoming an integral part of the KSHS team and are making a positive impact on the experiences of our students.
Finally, it was a pleasure to meet so many parents and carers at our Year 7 Settling In Evening yesterday. The strong partnership between home and school plays such an important role in supporting young people as they transition to secondary education, and it was wonderful to hear so many positive reflections on how well our newest students have settled into life at KSHS.

Hello, I'm Miss Cobb and I have recently started as Subject Leader for Science and form tutor to 9RC.
I am originally from Scotland and moved to England 6 years ago when I became a teacher, working in Peterborough.
When I am not teaching, I enjoy playing padel, trying to get in a couple of games a week.
I am excited to be starting my journey as KSHS and look forward to working with the students to nurture and inspire their love of science!

Hello, my name is Mrs Hastings and I am excited to join the KSHS Maths Department whilst Mrs Mahfouz is on maternity leave, as well as being tutor to 9KLM.
Following an MEng in Aeronautics and Astronautics from the University of Southampton, I spent a decade serving as an Aerosystems Engineering Officer in the Royal Air Force. I have since retrained as a Mathematics teacher and recently completed my PGCE at Bishop Grosseteste University.
Outside of school I have a husband, two stepchildren, one son, and two border collies, who all keep me very busy. In my spare time I enjoy swimming, running, walking my dogs, camping, reading, cooking, playing games and doing Maths, of course.

Hi, I’m Mr Murdock and I’ve recently joined the school as a Computer Science teacher. I studied Computer Science at university, graduating with a First, before completing my teacher training last year at Carre’s Grammar School.
Having trained within the Trust, I’m really pleased to be staying and continuing my teaching career here. I teach across a range of year groups, from KS3 through to A Level, and I’m enjoying getting to know the students and settling into the school.
Outside of school, I enjoy sport of any kind, musical theatre and, of course, technology! I’m looking forward to getting more involved in school life over the coming year.

Year 10 Textiles students have had a busy and creative start to the year! They have been learning about different fibres and fabrics, also fabric construction, while developing their practical skills through a range of hands-on activities. So far, students have experimented with paper and wool yarn weaving, wet felting and a variety of textile sampling. They have particularly enjoyed the practical elements of the course that support the theory and have been working enthusiastically to explore new techniques and create some fantastic experiments!

We spent the week celebrating European Day of Languages with a range of activities highlighting the value of languages and cultural diversity. Staff led assemblies, students enjoyed free European food tastings, and the popular ‘Catch the Teacher’ competition generated thousands of entries, with prizes awarded to several staff and student pairs.
|
|
|
Year 10 students took part in a postcard competition, while the highlight of the week was the Year 7 Great European Bake Off. Nearly 60 impressive entries were submitted, making judging extremely difficult. Cakes were sold by our Sixth Form linguists, raising an incredible £205.63 for the MS Society and Sleaford Twinning Society.

|
Congratulations to all participants, especially our runners-up Amaiya and Martha G, and the winning bakers: Raffaella, Zizi, Arabella, Charlotte, Olivia, Amber, Chloe, Izzy B and Brooke. Thank you to everyone, including parents, for making the week such a success.

Sixth Formers Bring Stories to Life in New Virtual Library
|
|

Chapel St Leonards Virtual Library opens with help from Sixth Form students
Welcome to the Chapel St Leonards Primary School Virtual Library! Click here to enter: https://chapel-cit.co.uk/chapel-virtual-library/
Sixth Form students from Kesteven & Sleaford High School and Carre's Grammar School kindly took time out of their studies yesterday to read stories for the pupils of Chapel St Leonards Primary School.
The Virtual Library can be accessed anywhere and pupils will also be able to choose one of these books at school, scan a QR code with a tablet and then listen to the story as they flick through the pages.
This is the beginning of an exciting project where we will add to the Virtual Library over time with a wide range of books for the Chapel pupils to choose from.

What to read next
Choosing the right book is key to having a successful and enjoyable reading outcome. In much the same way that we choose what to watch on streaming channels, making a good decision based on our likes, interests and previous experiences plays an important part in making informed book choices.
Students are encouraged to spend time choosing a book. A ‘grab and go’ approach will seldom result in a pleasurable read, just as clicking on the very first thing Netflix suggests may not lead to a rewarding watch.

Clubs and opening hours
The afterschool Homework Club is available as a drop in for all year groups. No prior sign up is necessary. (Mon-Thurs 3.30-4.30, Fri 3.30-4.00)

- Ages 8 to 12: Frank Cottrell-Boyce will read from The Blockbusters! and explore themes including cinema and culture.
- Ages 12 to 16: Nathanael Lessore will discuss topics linked to What Happens Online, including digital identity, confidence, family and school life. Year 7 competed in their first House event of the year; Capture the Flag took place on Wednesday 30 September at lunchtime with members of each house from across the 5 forms competing to be the winners.
It was a tight competition of games with lots of students participating fully, getting tagged into prison, released by their teammates and then attacking again.
The results are as follows:
4th – Aveland
3rd – Loveden
2nd – Flaxwell
1st – Winnibrigg

Staff are invited to nominate students who have demonstrated a Growth Mindset in the past few weeks. This might have been in lessons, in clubs, tutor time or simply around school. Please note we already award bi-annual subject badges and merits for good academic work, effort and improvement. These Growth Mindset nominations recognise those who show resilience (academic or otherwise); who aren’t afraid to get things wrong and learn from it; those who have a go, take themselves out of their comfort zone or show that even if a task is tough, they will persevere.

Student Success
I recently competed in a one-day equestrian event, which included three different phases: dressage, showjumping and cross-country. I achieved my best-ever dressage score, but I could still have lost my lead if I made mistakes in the showjumping or cross-country sections. Thankfully, my pony and I went double clear, meaning we completed both phases without any penalties, mistakes or refusals.
I won the dressage phase and was also delighted to win the overall competition across all three disciplines. To top it off, I was awarded Best Blankney Hunt Pony Club Member of the Day, which made it a really special achievement.
