Dear Parent/Carer
This week in school has been one of celebration and transition. We marked the end of all the GCSE and A level exams at the Sixth Form prom at the Hilton hotel on Thursday and the Year 11 prom at Kelham Hall this evening. We are so proud of all our students' hard work over past weeks and, whatever the outcome in August, we know that so many of them applied themselves like never before!
We are glad for them that their exams finished before this recent heatwave started. Thanks to all parents for their support by sending students to school well-equipped for the hot weather. We have made adjustments to breaktime locations, uniform and lesson planning to help them stay well in the heat. Next week, with cooler temperatures forecast, we will return to normal uniform expectations minus blazers. Please see the message sent via email to parents separately.
It was good to welcome our 150 soon-to-be Year 7 students to school as well as our returning Year 11 students, basing at the High School for A levels. Induction days for Sixth Form and Year 6 on Friday filled the school and hopefully inspired our next cohorts of learners. It was super to meet new parents at the new intake meeting on such a warm evening.
Next Tuesday in school is our open evening for Year 5 parents whose children are considering the High School for their secondary studies. As ever, our best marketing strategy is enabling prospective parents to meet our brilliant students. Thank you so much if you have offered to be a parent taxi to enable your child to be a tour guide.

For those of you who missed our school social media post.....
Congratulations to (from left to right) Alice (Assistant Head Girl), Grace (Head Girl), Charlotte (Deputy Head Girl) and Scarlett (Assistant Head Girl) who will make up our Student Senior Team for 2026-2027. They are pictured with Miss Chant (Head of Sixth Form). You will see them representing the school at various events throughout the year. They were successful after several stages of the recruitment process, which included public speaking, a selection panel of their peers and a formal interview with Mrs Smith (Headteacher), Miss Chant (Head of Sixth Form) and Marith Leafe (Outgoing Head Girl).

Important MenB Vaccination Programme for Year 13 Students
|
|
A new, one-off NHS vaccination programme is being introduced to help protect young people against meningococcal B disease (MenB), a serious bacterial infection that can cause meningitis and septicaemia.
The programme is available to students born between 1 September 2007 and 31 August 2008, including those planning to start university or attend a residential further education college in autumn 2026.
Young people moving into higher and further education settings may be at increased risk of infection due to close contact with large groups of new people. To help reduce this risk, eligible students are being offered a two-dose MenB vaccination course.
First doses will be available from July 2026, with the second dose given at least 28 days later. Students are strongly encouraged to receive both doses before the start of the 2026–27 academic year to ensure the best possible protection.
Parents and carers can find further information about the programme, including eligibility details and frequently asked questions, on the UK Health Security Agency website:
Who is eligible for the new one-off MenB vaccine programme?
https://ukhsa.blog.gov.uk/2026/06/12/who-is-eligible-for-the-new-one-off-menb-vaccine-programme/
We encourage all eligible students and families to read the guidance and arrange vaccination as early as possible.

Celebrating New Expertise in Student Wellbeing
|
|
We are delighted to share that Mrs Mattison, learning support assistant, has recently qualified as an Emotional Literacy Support Assistant (ELSA). This is a fantastic achievement and reflects our continued commitment to supporting the emotional wellbeing of all our students.
What is an ELSA?
An ELSA is a specially trained member of staff who works with students to develop their emotional literacy—the ability to understand, express, and manage emotions. Through structured, short-term interventions, ELSAs can support students in areas such as:
- Recognising and regulating emotions
- Building self-esteem and confidence
- Developing social skills and friendships
- Managing anxiety or worries
- Coping with change, loss, or transitions
Sessions are carefully planned, supportive, and tailored to the needs of individual students, often using creative and practical approaches to help students explore their feelings in a safe environment.
We are incredibly proud to be increasing our capacity to support students’ mental health and wellbeing, ensuring that every young person has the tools they need to thrive both emotionally and academically.

In recent weeks, the Geography department has been busy taking the Year 12 students out and about on field trips.
By visiting Hunstanton and Lincoln, the students have been able to collect primary data which they need to analyse for the Non-Examined Assessment (NEA) which comprises 20% of the A-Level grade.
In Lincoln, students visited different areas of the city, including the Cornhill to look at regeneration and the Lower High Street to explore land use changes. In Hunstanton, the students investigated coastal processes and management, as well as finding out views of the sea defences. They measured beach profiles and sand build-up next to groynes, assessed the effectiveness of the sea defences, and looked at plant succession on sand dunes.
The Year 12 Geographers will now spend time writing up their NEAs. We look forward to reading their final projects!

Supporting Your Child's Speech and Language Development
|
|
Speech, language and communication skills are essential for your child’s learning, social development and emotional wellbeing. Children develop these skills at different rates, but understanding what is typical for each age can help you spot if your child may need extra support.
We encourage all parents and carers to explore this helpful guide from Speech and Language UK:
https://speechandlanguage.org.uk/help-for-families/ages-and-stages/
The website outlines what you might expect at each stage of your child’s development and offers practical advice to support them at home.
When to seek advice:
You may want to speak to the school SENCo or a healthcare professional if you notice that your child:
- Is significantly behind typical milestones for their age
- Has difficulty understanding instructions
- Struggles to express themselves clearly
- Finds it hard to interact or communicate with others
Early identification and support can make a significant difference, so please do have a look and get in touch if you have any concerns.

Staff are invited to nominate students who have demonstrated a Growth Mindset in the past few weeks. This might have been in lessons, in clubs, tutor time or simply around school. Please note we already award bi-annual subject badges and merits for good academic work, effort and improvement. These Growth Mindset nominations recognise those who show resilience (academic or otherwise); who aren’t afraid to get things wrong and learn from it; those who have a go, take themselves out of their comfort zone or show that even if a task is tough, they will persevere.
