Term 3 - 30 January 2026

Dear Parent/Carer

This week's newsletter must start with recognition of all our Year 13 students who have been studying hard and undertaking their A Level mock exams this week. At the same time, many are awaiting and receiving offers for university or apprenticeship places and juggling coursework deadlines. It's been a busy week for them as their plans for life after KSHS start to take real shape. Well done to all of them.

Elsewhere in school, we have been enacting plans to support our Year 11s as they enter the final quarter of their two-year GCSE courses. We are pleased that we have secured some additional funding to bring in 'Maximise your Potential', an excellent study skills company we have used before to run a half-day revision skills session for all our Year 11 students. Student feedback in the past has been really positive about this session, which is energising, practical and really focused on supporting students in our context. We know our students are keen to do their best and are prepared to work really hard, and we want to help them avoid “busy‑work” revision, which often demands a lot of time (and a very large stationery supply!). However, this kind of revision can have less impact on helping students retrieve knowledge than more focused, high‑impact activities that stretch the brain for less time but are more effective in ensuring the right skills are tested and knowledge moves into long‑term memory.

Finally, I'd like to thank those parents who have got in touch to offer congratulations on my appointment as Executive Headteacher of Kesteven and Sleaford High School and Carre's Grammar School from September. I have really appreciated your support and encouragement and been touched by your kind words.

Mrs J Smith
Headteacher

Fundraising for Namibia

This July, students from KSHS and CGS are travelling to Namibia on an expedition with Schools Worldwide. They will be working across three remote primary schools, helping to redecorate the dormitories, classrooms and the outside of the buildings. They will also be building outdoor recreational equipment. However, the three school hostel blocks are also in desperate need of replacement blankets and mattresses for the 'learners' (the name used for students in Namibia). Please help us to achieve our aim of raising £1500 per school – this would ensure that more learners are warm and comfortable throughout the year.  If you could share this link with family, friends and work colleagues, it would really help us achieve our target!

Wellbeing for All

Staff are invited to nominate students who have demonstrated a Growth Mindset in the past few weeks. This might have been in lessons, in clubs, tutor time or simply around school. Please note we already award bi-annual subject badges and merits for good academic work, effort and improvement. These Growth Mindset nominations recognise those who show resilience (academic or otherwise); who aren’t afraid to get things wrong and learn from it; those who have a go, take themselves out of their comfort zone or show that even if a task is tough, they will persevere.
