Dear Parent/Carer
It's been an energising two weeks since our last newsletter and as the daffodils come out and we look out for the nesting ducks around the site, students have been as busy as ever.
Well done to all those involved in the school production 'Much Ado about Panto' last week and thank you to parents for all your support. Hopefully you saw the photos on our social media feed. There is nothing more inspiring than seeing young people collaborating across year groups and having fun at the same time. It's what inclusion, engagement and belonging really look like in action. It was lovely to share the matinée with our local primary schools as well as our Community Inclusive Trust colleagues and pupils from Billingborough Primary School, The William Alvey School, Osbournby Primary School, Poplar Farm Primary School and Caythorpe Primary School.
Thank you too to all parents who came to our Year 8 parents 'evening this week. If you haven't had a chance to complete our parent survey, we would be really grateful if you could find 3 minutes. I read every response and your comments genuinely feed into our improvement planning. Thank you for taking the time. Year 7-13 Parent's Evening Survey 2025-2026 – Fill in form
Finally, good luck to all our Year 12 students who have applied to be part of the Student Senior Team. We are part way through our selection process to find our next Head Girl/Boy and Team. And the fieldis very strong. We will keep you posted!

As part of our World Book Day and National Year of Reading celebrations, we are excited to launch the CIT Virtual Library! Book reviews can be a great way to create a reading community that shares reading recommendations in one place and encourages us to try something new. We have created a short Microsoft form to collate book reviews. If you wish to leave a book review, please follow this link CIT Book Reviews where pupils, staff, parents and the wider school community can share their very own book reviews. This initiative is open to everyone and will remain open throughout the calendar year. The CIT virtual library can be accessed from this link CIT-Virtual-Library-National-Year-of-Reading

As always, the KSHS Library has been at the heart of this Year’s World Book Day Celebrations. Mrs Parrot and her team in the Dining Room have also been getting involved and have run prize draws to win mystery books. Our Teaching staff have been modelling what they are currently reading, and our librarian has had the opportunity to wear her favourite jumper! Don’t forget to tune in to the BBC’s special edition of the One Show on Friday 6 March at 7pm, where the winners of the 500 Words writing competition will be announced (Mrs Gibson was one of the volunteer judges).

Sixth Form Talk – ASSET – the Adrian Sudbury Schools' Education Trust.
On Friday 27 February, students in Year 12 and 13 had a talk delivered by ASSET - the 'Adrian Sudbury School's Education Trust’. Adrian Sudbury was a 27-year-old journalist who died of leukaemia. His dying wish was that every 16-18 year old could be taught the facts about stem cell, blood and organ donation, that he himself benefitted from, prolonging his life and giving him precious extra time with his family. We were privileged to welcome his dad, Keith, to deliver the talk, which many students found quite emotional. The charity delivers the Register and Be a Lifesaver Education Programme (R&Be) to Sixth Form Students in Schools, Academies and Colleges across England, raising awareness about blood, stem cell and organ donation. Students are then in a position to make informed choices about all forms of donation. We have encouraged all students to discuss their wishes with family first.
Keith is pictured presenting the school with an award that recognises our ongoing collaboration with the charity to raise awareness of this important issue.
If you would like to find out more about the charity, please follow this weblink: ASSET and Anthony Nolan | Anthony Nolan
You can also use the QR codes if you are interested in blood or organ donation. Young people aged under 30 can join the Anthony Nolan register for stem cell donation – our students have received a QR code by e-mail for this; adults up to the age of 55 can donate stem cells on the DKMS register here: DKMS UK

Assemblies this week have been focused on apprenticeship opportunities to celebrate Careers Week.
Key Stage 5 heard from 2 alumni who are currently completing apprenticeships in Travel and Tourism (with Hays Travel) and Accountancy (with Duncan and Toplis). They shared information about the application process, what completing the apprenticeship was like, and future opportunities they may get.
Another ex-student, Madi and her colleague Zach , delivered an assembly for Key Stage 3, about her degree apprenticeship with Siemens in Manchester. Again, she spoke about life as an apprentice, how she balances university study with her work and the opportunities within the company.
Key Stage 4 had an assembly delivered by Lincoln College that outlined the many different pathways available there, including apprenticeships and how students can apply for them.
Tutor groups have also discussed careers in form time, including issues such as ‘Will AI take our jobs?’, ‘What are home and hybrid working?’ And ‘Should all employers adopt a 4-day week?’. We continue to ensure that Careers are an embedded part of our curriculum in school so students can be aware of the multitude of pathways available to them in future.
We are also delighted to celebrate Liv, a student in Year 13, who has been offered a Degree Apprenticeship in Electronic Engineering with Leonardo, an aerospace company. This is a very competitive field, and an incredible achievement!

Year 7 Enjoy Inspiring STEM Morning
Last week, Year 7 took part in an engaging STEM event delivered by PPMA, (Processing and Packaging Machinery Association) giving students a glimpse into the wide range of careers linked to Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics.
Students heard from inspiring guest speakers who shared their routes into STEM, highlighting the many pathways available — from apprenticeships to university degrees — and reinforcing that there is no single route to success.
The first hands‑on challenge asked teams to design a “Roller Loader” to transport a marble using only gravity and limited materials. This real‑world engineering task encouraged creativity, problem solving and teamwork. The winning team achieved an impressive run time of almost 11 seconds.
The second task pushed students’ innovation even further, as they had just 20 minutes to design a new product and present it in a 40‑second elevator pitch. The winning idea was a clever, eco‑friendly “butter stick” with refillable inserts to reduce plastic waste.
Year 7 showed fantastic enthusiasm, resilience and teamwork throughout. The morning offered a valuable insight into the exciting possibilities of future STEM careers.

Sleaford Twinning Opportunities
The Sleaford and District Twinning Association is once again offering the chance to take part in the association’s visits to our twin towns in Germany and France. This would be a really excellent chance for students to improve their German or French! Several Sleaford students took part last year and the events were a great success.
They are arranging a visit from Sleaford to theTwin Towns of Marquette-lez-Lille (near Lille, Northern France) and Fredersdorf-Vogelsdorf (near Berlin) and would be delighted if there are any students (or families) from KSHS who would like to travel with them. They offer a 50% discount to school students for their first visit with them. They stay for 3 nights in private homes with our French or German hosts so this is an ideal opportunity to experience the French or German way of life. Whilst there, there is a programme of events arranged for you.
Details are on the poster and if you would like further details, please contact them directly by email at sleafordtwinning@gmail.com

Celebrating 28 Years of Service: Farewell to Mrs Rowena Porter

After an extraordinary 28 years of dedicated service, we recently gathered as a school community to celebrate and thank Mrs Row Porter, our Student Services and Office Manager who is retiring from Kesteven and Sleaford High School after a career that has touched the lives of staff, students, and families alike.
Mrs Porter’s kindness, patience, humour, and unwavering professionalism have left a lasting mark on Kesteven and Sleaford High School. She embodies the very best of what it means to be part of our community.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to her and wish her every happiness in the years ahead.

Supporting your Child during times of International Unrest
Internationally, it's been a news-filled week and we know that in an area with a lot of connections to the Armed Forces, international events will directly touch many of our students' and colleagues' lives. The following resources may be of help in supporting parents and young people to explore together current affairs, and in particular the unfolding events in the Middle East. We have included a link to the Lincolnshire Libraries home page, where free access to the Press Reader App may be a useful resource.

Staff are invited to nominate students who have demonstrated a Growth Mindset in the past few weeks. This might have been in lessons, in clubs, tutor time or simply around school. Please note we already award bi-annual subject badges and merits for good academic work, effort and improvement. These Growth Mindset nominations recognise those who show resilience (academic or otherwise); who aren’t afraid to get things wrong and learn from it; those who have a go, take themselves out of their comfort zone or show that even if a task is tough, they will persevere.
