Term 6 - 27 June 2025

Dear Parent/Carer

With Year 11 and Year 13 now having started their long and very well-deserved summer breaks post exams, we are able to use the space and time that creates in school to do so many fun things. It was lovely to meet the Year 6 students who will soon be Years 7s in September. We have also been delighted to welcome new staff for September for their staff induction. We will introduce all four staff members to you in September, but for today, a warm welcome to Mrs Lenton, Miss Ellis and Miss Colley (left to right)  who join the Art, PE and Design and Technology teams as teachers in September. Mr Shepherd joins us too as Subject leader of Maths and Mrs Brown continues her role as Assisatnt Headteacher (SENCO).

Year 6 enjoyed a sunny day of lessons which hopefully helped calm any transition nerves. Our new parents' evening took place this week too, with next week reserved for prospective parents of Year 5 pupils who are warmly invited to our annual Open Evening on Tuesday or to our Open Days on Tuesday and Wednesday Kesteven & Sleaford High School - Open Events.

Current students are busy practising for sports day, fundraising for some great causes on the Sponsored Walk and are out on field work. D of E students are on expedition and Year 12s are all getting ready for work experience placements.

Our estates team are ready for a really busy summer of refurbishment as we develop an area of the school currently used for administration into our new KSHS Pastoral and SEND Hub. The new space will replace the provision we currently have in 'The House' with specially designed spaces for students to work, reflect and find support. It will be a base for our Learning Support team and Heads of Year, who will be able to work even more collaboratively. We look forward to sharing photos with you in September. This builds on the success of our recent government bids for improvements to our buildings. KSHS will be looking and feeling smarter than ever!

Thank you for all your support as parents during this busy term. We really do appreciate your help: whether that is contributing to our fundraising, taxiing your child to evening events or working with us to support your child's development.

Have a lovely sunny weekend.

Mrs J Smith
Headteacher

KSHS Sponsored Walk 2025 - Fundraising Push this week

{item_alt_tag}

The School Sponsored Walk is fast approaching. Thank you to all those parents who have so far helped to raise over £2000 for the great causes students have nominated.

As well as for additional school resources like equipment for our extra-curricular clubs. Last year students raised a fantastic £9,000. We are hoping for a big fundraising push in this last week! If all walkers managed to raise £17 each we would exceed last year's total.

All students have details of how to encourage family and friends to pledge donations in their school email inbox. A letter was shared with parents recently with details of how to donate, but even easier is to simply follow this link 2025 RCT Sponsored Walk  to make a donation. There are prizes for form groups in school who raise the most!

Please pass this on to friends, family and colleagues and help us raise some funds for some great causes.

With thanks in advance.

Riverlight Festival

On Saturday 21 June Year 7 and Year 8 students took part in the Sleaford Riverlight Parade, part of this year’s Riverlight Festival – Circles, Cycles and the Summer Solstice!

Students in Year 7 worked with artists Lumoworkshop in May to create their wearable parade artwork and had a two-hour movement workshop with Emily from the Hub dance team in which they had chance to practise moving with their costumes on and created a short dance piece to perform in the parade.

Students in Year 8 have been using lunchtime art club sessions to work on a parade sculpture with our technician and artist Miss Cartwright. Also working with Miss Cartwright were a group of Year 9 students who will be going on to study GCSE Fine Art, and a group of Year 12 students taking art as their Wednesday afternoon enrichment. Four of the Year 8 students turned out at the parade to carry the pieces of work.

The day of the festival was very warm, and when the rain arrived, just as we were forming up in Sleaford Market Square, everybody found it very refreshing! We were one of five schools taking part and it was fantastic to walk alongside the professional performers and see the people of Sleaford turn out to cheer and wave.

Sixth Form Chemists visit Lincoln University

On Wednesday 18 June, our sixth form chemistry class visited Lincoln University to attend the ‘Be Inspired: Alternatives to Medicine’ taster event, with the purpose of exploring STEM careers that support the healthcare industry from behind the scenes. We attended two talks on drug development and pharmaceutical science and a further workshop in one of the teaching labs with other sixth formers across Lincolnshire. In the workshop, we carried out an ELISA (Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay) test, testing for specific antibodies produced in sufferers of rheumatoid arthritis. This was an exciting opportunity to use University facilities and equipment. Fatima, who attended, said ‘I really enjoyed the practical workshop since the hands-on experience was inspiring and a chance to make new friends!’

Year 12 Geography Fieldtrips

{item_alt_tag}
{item_alt_tag}

Recently, the Geography Department has been busy taking the Year 12 students out and about on fieldtrips.

By visiting Skegness and Lincoln, the students have been able to collect primary data which they need to write up their Non-Examined Assessment (NEA) which comprises 20% of the A-Level grade.

The first day was spent in scorching sunshine working in a range of locations on the Lincolnshire coastline. Here students investigated coastal processes and management, as well as finding out tourists’ views of the sea defences. They measured beach profiles and sand build-up next to groynes, assessed the effectiveness of the sea defences, and looked at plant succession on sand dunes. Some students also conducted human geography fieldwork in the town using land use mapping and environmental quality surveys.

In Lincoln students visited different areas of the city including Glebe and Abbey Wards as well as the regenerated Cornhill and St. Marks.  Here the students were investigating a range of geographical topics including variations in social deprivation, the impact of studentification and the impact of regeneration.

The Year 12 Geographers will now spend time writing up their NEAs. We look forward to reading their final projects!

Wellbeing for All

Staff are invited to nominate students who have demonstrated a Growth Mindset in the past few weeks. This might have been in lessons, in clubs, tutor time or simply around school. Please note we already award bi-annual subject badges and merits for good academic work, effort and improvement. These Growth Mindset nominations recognise those who show resilience (academic or otherwise); who aren’t afraid to get things wrong and learn from it; those who have a go, take themselves out of their comfort zone or show that even if a task is tough, they will persevere.
