Each team must also deliver a technical presentation explaining their engineering process, and how their quadcopter was modified to provide support for a local hero. Our team designed their drone to support search and rescue teams, adding a thermal imaging camera, yellow and red theming, and white LEDs. They developed their use of CAD/CAM to design and manufacture additional parts, such as new arms and legs. The competition brings together the best young engineers in the country and encourages creativity, teamwork, and resilience.

Here they competed against approximately 300 of the best runners from counties all across the UK. They both had a great run, got some great times and thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience.

I’ve been training at Sleaford Kuk Sool Won (an amazing Korean martial art) since March 2017. I’ve worked hard and done some amazing things, but the year 2023 was the best year yet! Already a first degree black belt, I started my 2-year journey to second degree black belt in June after a very intense 3 hour testing. Following that, I then competed in the European tournament in the under 12 girls category. The girls I was against were very good and it was great to meet new people but also be with people I have trained with for several years. In the tournament, I competed in five categories. These were Sword, Staff, Forms, Techniques and Sparring. I won five medals. I won gold in sparring, silver in Form and Staff form, bronze in Sword form and copper in techniques. Later, I went on to join the demonstration team in which I performed techniques and the ‘Nak Bup’ team. ‘Nak Bup’ means break falling/acrobatics.

This might have been in lessons, in clubs, in tutor time or simply around school. Please note we already award bi-annual subject badges and merits for good academic work, effort and improvement. These Growth Mindset nominations recognise those who show resilience (academic or otherwise); who aren’t afraid to get things wrong and learn from it; those who have a go, take themselves out of their comfort zone or show that even if a task is tough, they will persevere.
