Aims of the course

Course content/structure

Students begin their GCSE course in Year 9 with 1 hour of Chemistry per week taught by a subject specialist. In Year 10 students are allocated 3 hours per fortnight and in year 11, 4 hours per fortnight. The course is divided into 11 topic areas.

  3. Quantitative chemistry
  4. Chemical changes
  5. Energy changes
  6. The rate and extent of chemical change
  7. Organic chemistry
  8. Chemical analysis

  10. Using resources

Eight required practicals are distributed throughout the course.

Assessment Information

This qualification is linear. Students will sit all their exams at the end of the course.
