Aims of the Course

The GCSE in Physical Education offered at KSHS is in line with the AQA qualification.

Course content / structure

Students are allocated 5 hours per fortnight of timetable time in Years 10 and 11 for their Physical Education studies. The course content is divided into 3 areas, 2 theoretical and 1 practical component.

  1. The human body and movement in physical activity and sport
  1. Socio-cultural influences and well-being in physical activity and sport
  1. Practical performance in physical activity and sport

Assessment information

Paper 1: The human body and movement in physical activity and sport (30% of overall grade)

Students will be assessed in a written examination on the human body and movement in physical activity and sport.

Paper 2: Socio-cultural influences and well-being in physical activity and sport (30% of overall grade)

Students will be assessed in a written examination on Socio-cultural influences and well-being in physical activity and sport.

Non-exam assessment: Practical performance in physical activity and sport (40% of overall grade)

Students will be assessed in Practical performance in three different physical activities in the role of player/performer (one in a team activity, one in an individual activity and a third in either a team or in an individual activity). Alongside this they will submit a written analysis and evaluation of performance to bring about improvement in one activity.
