The Smallpeice Trust is an educational charity that inspires young people to pursue careers in science and engineering through events and workshops. Well done to Josie who competed for Lincoln Rowing Club at the National Junior Indoor Rowing Championship, held at the Olympic Park in London. Josie won her heat with a strong performance, holding the lead throughout the full 3-minute piece and finishing on 767 meters. Josie came 5th overall out of 274 rowers in the year 8 girls event.

Grace (8FJ) tells us about her Kuk Sool Won journey so far.......

I’ve been training at Sleaford Kuk Sool Won (an amazing Korean martial art) since March 2017. I’ve worked hard and done some amazing things, but the year 2023 was the best year yet! Already a first degree black belt, I started my 2-year journey to second degree black belt in June after a very intense 3 hour testing. Following that, I then competed in the European tournament in the under 12 girls category. The girls I was against were very good and it was great to meet new people but also be with people I have trained with for several years. In the tournament, I competed in five categories. These were Sword, Staff, Forms, Techniques and Sparring. I won five medals. I won gold in sparring, silver in Form and Staff form, bronze in Sword form and copper in techniques. Later, I went on to join the demonstration team in which I performed techniques and the ‘Nak Bup’ team. ‘Nak Bup’ means break falling/acrobatics.

As the weather warms up gardening club are starting to prepare for our spring planting, and we’d love to receive any of your unwanted garden tools, pots, compost or vegetable seeds (in date, please). Any items can be left at reception. Thank you!

Congratulations to Evelyn (8FJ), at the recent Lincolnshire ASA county swimming championships. 

Having achieved the tough qualifying times to enter the competition, Evelyn competed with hundreds of other swimmers over two weekends, representing the Lincoln Vulcans Swimming Club in 50m, 100m, 200m breast stroke as well as the 100m individual medley.  She reached the final in all her events and even won a bronze medal in the 50m race.  These results came as a result of her persistence and hard work during training, involving many very early starts and a big commitment from her; we are all very proud of her achievement.

Staff are invited to nominate students who have demonstrated a Growth Mindset in the past few weeks. This might have been in lessons, in clubs, in tutor time or simply around school. Please note we already award bi-annual subject badges and merits for good academic work, effort and improvement. These Growth Mindset nominations recognise those who show resilience (academic or otherwise); who aren’t afraid to get things wrong and learn from it; those who have a go, take themselves out of their comfort zone or show that even if a task is tough, they will persevere.
